"Tap into your talents." In today's market, leveraging our talents is the best way to fire-proof our career and ensure career viability.
Your talents are what you do easily and naturally. As a matter of fact, they're so easy you probably take them for granted. In my coaching work with literally thousands of leaders,the single biggest mistake individuals make is thinking their talents are 'no big deal.'
Reflect on work you enjoy and feel great doing, this is your talent zone. In your talent zone you consistently deliver better results. Not to mention the appreciation you receive from others!
You have 5-7 core talents. When you're in a role that uses these talents, you're happy and productive. Unfortunately only 20% of us are IN our talent zone.
Use your talents when...
#1. You're looking for a job. Knowing your talents ensures the right job fit. You'll move from desperate to deliberate and choose roles that play to your strengths.
#2. You want to advance your career. Respecting your talents helps you align your skills with the right projects. You'll add value to work projects and share your expertise in ways that benefit others.
#3. You're teaming with others. Knowing your talents helps you be a better team player. Appreciating talent differences raises awareness and respect for what everyone brings to the table.
Today your talents are the only thing you can bank on! Staying true to what you do best ensures your success. Whether you're an independent contractor, internal employee, business owner or sales person — investing in your talents pays big dividends.
Don't rely on the stimulus package to get your career into high gear. Tap into your talents and stay viable in today's marketplace.
